Getting started is simpler than you think. Whether you already have an internship or are just starting your search, here is your roadmap to joining the next MHIP cohort

1. Are You Eligible
To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate student in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA) with a declared major or concentration determined by the grant foundation. Eligibility does not guarantee participation or funding for the internship program. You must be approved and selected by the MHIP committee and an internship site.
2. Submit Application
Work with the MHIP Career Specialist to review and submit your resume and cover letter.
Applicants without an updated cover letter and resume are invited to attend a Career Services Resume and Cover Letter Workshop.

3. Secure Internship
Students seeking internships are invited to review pre-approved positions. Students are also invited to attend Internship Exchange events hosted every spring and fall semesters.
If you already have an internship arrangement, please submit internship information to mellon@memphis.edu for approval. Include the position description and supervisor's contact information.
For further individualized support with your search, please contact Serena Whittaker in Career Services.

Required MHIP Activities
NOTE: While students are encouraged to take an internship course through their academic department, the College of Arts & Sciences, or the Career Services department, receiving academic credit is not required for the Mellon Humanities Internship Program.
The activities below are REQUIRED of all Mellon Interns and may be in addition to the requirements of any internship course the intern may take.
- MHIP Onboarding. Students must complete the MHIP Onboarding activities within the first 3 days of their contract date start date. Interns will be paid for completing these activities, which will include both virtual and in-person components. Students will gain access to Oracle on the first day of their internship, so they should complete their onboarding during internship workdays.
- Check-Ins. Throughout the internship experience, interns will have regular check-ins with their Internship Coordinator and the MHIP Career Readiness Specialist. Students are responsible for following up on any outreach from these Mellon team members and completing these periodic check-ins.
- Professional & Personal Development Sessions. All interns are required to attend at least one session during the semester/term they are interning. The schedule for these sessions will be provided to the cohort by the Career Readiness Specialist.
- Self-Evaluations. An intended outcome of the internship experience is that students will demonstrate ³Ù³ó±ð NACE Competencies, equipping them to transition successfully into and thrive in the workplace. Students and Site Supervisors will complete pre-assessment and final evaluations on Suitable.
- Reflection Activity. At the end of the semester/term, Mellon interns will be required to submit an Internship Reflection 250 words minimum on Suitable as well as follow-up meeting with their Career Specialists one-on-one or in small groups.
